Cemetery gates open longer hours
Cemetery gates will be open longer hours for easy access to gravesites at Evergreen and Memorial Gardens cemeteries during Memorial Day weekend.
All gates will be open on Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Only the Third Avenue gate drive-in entrance is open after the parade and ceremony on Memorial Day from noon to 8 p.m.
Historic Courthouse
entrance restoration
A restoration project at the Crow Wing County Historic Courthouse north entrance steps, 326 Laurel Street, Brainerd, will begin Tuesday. The restoration is being done to preserve and maintain the original granite and look for this historic landmark, as well as eliminate any possible safety concerns.
Completion of the restoration is expected by June 18. During this project, the north entrance will be unavailable and access to the building can be gained through the west, south and east doors. Public parking is available in the lot on the north side of Laurel Street, as well as a limited number of spots behind the Historic Courthouse.
Teachers mark Cummings’ retirement with T-shirts
The retirement, this spring, of Brainerd High School teacher Jan Cummings inspired other teachers to wear T-shirts stating “I (heart) Jan.”
Cummings has taught in the language arts department after 44 years at the high school.
Brainerd park board
meets Tuesday
The Brainerd Parks and Recreation Board will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers at Brainerd City Hall.
