Third annual Family Fun Day to benefit military families set May 27

Cragun’s Resort, Brainerd, is presenting the third annual Family Fun Day May 27 and free golf for veterans on May 28 and May 29.

“Veterans of Minnesota were called and they served for you,” said resort owner Dutch Cragun, in a news release “They gave; now they need your support. It’s time to show your appreciation and do your part. It’s the right thing to do.”

These events will honor service members and their families with on-site military personnel from all branches of the service. The event starts at noon on May 27 and 100 percent of donations raised at the event will go to the Minnesota Military Family Assistance Center.

Family Fun Day activities will run from noon to 3 p.m. and will include a silent auction fundraiser, food and beverage booths, Humvee rides, a rock climbing wall, bounce house, carnival games, balloon artists, face painters, and live music. All activities are open to the public.

On May 28 and May 29, veterans will receive complimentary greens fees on all three Legacy Golf Courses, rated among the best in the state by Golf Digest. There’s just a $10 charge per person for a GPS-equipped golf cart. Friends and family playing with veterans will receive a discounted golf rate with cart of $35 per person. For more information, call 825-2789.

Cragun’s also invites non-golfers to fish for free on Cragun’s docks using our rowboats, with or without motors. Pontoon rental is also available for $10 per hour. There will be a casual gathering for families and friends of veterans at the Legacy Clubhouse from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 28 and May 29, with complimentary coffee, cookies, and sweets. This is the 10th year Cragun’s has hosted their veteran’s appreciation event on Memorial weekend.

“We’re pleased to show our support for our military services and their families,” said Cragun. “As a veteran of the Korean War myself, I know how important it is to be recognized for serving our country. Now that we are at war again, the sacrifices of military personnel and their families should not go unnoticed. That’s why our annual veterans appreciation programs have expanded to include a Family Fun Day for those dedicated family members left behind.”
