About half of north Brainerd residents were out of power Tuesday night for about a half-hour after a utility pole malfunctioned, Brainerd Public Utilities (BPU) Superintendent Scott Magnuson said.
The Brainerd Fire Department responded to the utility pole call at 8:48 p.m. at 13th Street and Laurel Street.
Magnuson said residents in north Brainerd from the Mississippi River to North Fourth Street and the area to the south of Washington Street near the Dairy Queen were without power.
Magnuson said an insulator broke that caused a mechanical failure that started the pole on fire. Magnuson said BPU switched to an alternate power source so residents would have power. He said BPU crews finished fixing the problem Wednesday morning.
