Senate OKs hunting and fishing fee hikes

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Senate has voted to raise fees for hunting and fishing licenses.

The Senate approved the hike 43-22 as an amendment to a larger policy bill Monday. Debate on the full bill is still under way. If it passes, it will go back to the House, which passed it earlier without the fee increases.

Under the bill, a one-year fishing license for an adult resident would go from $17 to $22. A deer hunting license for residents would be bumped from $26 to $30. Other fees would increase by similar amounts.

The fees have not been raised since 2001. The Department of Natural Resources and outdoors groups want the hikes to replenish a fund that pays for fisheries and wildlife programs but could run out of money next year.
