VIRGINIA, Minn. (AP) — A hospital in northeastern Minnesota says it has changed its policies after mixing up two newborns.
A nurse at Virginia Regional Medical Center recently brought a newborn to a mother to breastfeed, but it was later discovered it wasn't her baby.
Medical Center CEO Bill Smith tells the Mesabi Daily News (http://bit.ly/JfSQPD ) a nurse entered the wrong room with the baby and failed to match the newborn's hospital bracelet with the mother's. Smith says an ID card that followed the baby included the mother's room number, but the mother had changed rooms. He says the card system has since been abolished.
Families of both newborns are upset. The father of one of the babies says his wife was breastfeeding the wrong child.
