ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The financial state of the Minnesota Republican Party has been so "precarious" this year that it went a couple months without paying rent on its St. Paul headquarters.
That's according to a confidential memo from its treasurer that became public Monday. The party's deep debt problems contributed to a turnover in leadership last year and have caused internal worries about its ability to assist candidates this fall.
The party owes vendors nearly $1 million from services previously provided and is working to pay off federal penalties and a credit line.
Minnesota GOP chairman Pat Shortridge says the memo dated February 29 reflects "only a snapshot in time" and that the party is in better shape now than it was a few months ago.
The memo was first reported by Politico.

Add commentThe MN GOP wants to social engineer all of us 99%ers to chap.11
While the GOP is out preaching fiscal responsibility , they cannot pay their own bills. The guy they wanted as Gov, is working a few hours a week as a radio show host on a station nobody has ever heard of. The guy they wanted to send to the US Senate is living high off the hog working for a super pac. Then there is Amy Koch ,another fine GOP leader in MN who was determined to define and eliminate gay marraige ,she got distracted and had to step down. Now the former Sec of State -Mary K from Big Lake pushes the GOP think tank voter ID agenda. Im still waiting to see one qualified GOP politician or idea in this state. Get out and vote in Nov. ,send the yahoos a message they may actually understand. Maybe voters are starting to understand why the common sense DFL controlled the MN lawmakers for 40 years.
haha
Look where that got us cap.
DFL debt:
DFL Chair Ken Martin disclosed that his party is $581,000 in debt earlier this month -- about $350,000 more than the debt he discussed with reporters late last year.
The party owes the Washington D.C. based Perkins Cole law firm $110,000. Debt is debt, no matter who owes.
Minnesota, hats off to you!
Tops in Education, high graduation rates, ACT college test scores.
Best environment, healthy people, clean water.
Top medical centers, public and private colleges.
Great sports' fans.
Just one more thing would further improve it:
turn the state blue again.
No more embarrassing and unethical politicians and legislation!
If you disagree, send your donations to the GOP. They need them badly.
Please do
The GOP doesn't get all the illegal funds that the DFL carpetbags into their backrooms.
common sense DFlers
that put our state in debt and are crying wee wee wee that the credit card is cut up?...aye aye captin !
No more embarrassing and unethical polticians...
The pot calling the kettle black. The motto of the DFL in "12"... "We all vow to collectively hold our breath until the entire State turns blue again! Now everyone at the "Party" command...stop breathing!"
"common sense DFlers"
Myeye08, where did you ever see a picture of one of those extinct creatures? I thought they were eradicated decades ago.
At the time they were spreading lies and pilfering the taxpayers pockets. There has been evidence surfacing lately that spoor may have survived and are trying to resurrect this ponzi scheme. They lurk here in these forums disguised as innocent lakelanders, dutchmen, smartguys, fishheads, macrangers, and snowdas waiting to pounce. There are many more I don't want to reveal at this time, but look out and be very, very careful!!!!
Moderates and Independents...
Centrist viewpoints...
Isn't it ironic that...
the "Party" of their parents and " anybody over thirty is not to be trusted " is their "Party" now. What would Grandpa say if he were alive today?
