Little Falls Superintendent Curt Tryggestad has accepted the position as the new superintendent of Eden Prairie Schools.
The Eden Prairie School Board Friday unanimously voted to name Tryggestad as the new superintendent, contingent upon finalizing the contract, the Star Tribune reported.
Tryggestad, who was not in the office Friday, but communicated through email, told the Dispatch that Friday morning he agreed to enter into contract negotiations with Eden Prairie Schools to be its next superintendent. Tryggestad said he believes the school has approximately 9,300 students.
Tryggestad said he is under contract with Little Falls until June 30 and the position at Eden Prairie starts July 1. Tryggestad said that since the Eden Prairie School Board voted today on the negotiations, he has not had the opportunity to discuss any other details with the Little Falls Board of Education.
When asked what Tryggestad will miss about Little Falls Schools, he said, “Everything. I have been able to forge wonderful working relationships with so many individuals in our district, community and the area. I am also so proud of our students. We have accomplished some amazing things, and I am very proud of all of our progress as a school district.”
Tryggestad said his biggest accomplishments since being superintendent in Little Falls since 2006, would be Project REAL and “reestablishing Little Falls as the District of Choice in our area through sound management and making student achievement our number one priority.”
Before coming to Little Falls, Tryggestad was the superintendent at Esko Public Schools for three years and prior to that, he was a secondary principal at Pine City Public Schools. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Luther College and a master’s degree from St. Cloud State University.
The Star Tribune reported that the Eden Prairie School Board had narrowed its choices to three candidates when they met Friday morning. The other two were Gerald Hill, superintendent of Glenview School District in Illinois and Michael Meissen, superintendent of Glenbard Township in Lombard, Ill.
The Tribune reported that Tryggestad will replace Melissa Krull, who resigned in September after implementing controversial changes in school boundaries, largely done so low-income students weren’t concentrated at one elementary school.

paid Superintendent Melissa Krull $100,000 to leave in September, nine months earlier than planned. The board must still negotiate a contract with Tryggestad. They are expected to offer him a salary in the range of $185,000 to $205,000. Tryggestad currently makes about $145,000 at Little Falls!
Eden Prairie School District's tax levy amount for 2012 is down by $1 million compared to 2011. Don't you love how school districts throw other people's money around?

I believe the comment is that a school district throwing around money like it's free, needs to reexamine itself. How long before there is a referendum asking citizens to help pay for this or that? Very childish comment you made and has nothing to do with the article.
