Students at Harrison Elementary School and Forestview Middle School spent time Thursday with Chad Hoopes, 17, a student at Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, who has played with orchestras around the world.

Hoopes is Classical Minnesota Public Radio’s third-ever artist-in-residence. As the artist-in-residence, Hoopes will visit specific elementary, middle school and high school classrooms around the state, performing and talking about the importance of music and the arts.

He will be joined by Classical MPR host Steve Staruch at each school.

“Chad Hoopes is an amazing young violinist with roots in Minnesota, and we’re thrilled to have him be our artist-in-residence,” said Daniel Gilliam, Classical MPR’s program director, in an email release. “What Chad offers is more than a message about playing the violin, but also about being involved in music and, regardless of what you love, giving your absolute best.”

Hoopes has performed with numerous ensembles, including the Cleveland Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Brussels Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera and Trondheim Symphony.

My child LOVED this special event!

According to my kid, this man was awesome.

Real talent. Real intelligence.

What a treat it was for the kids at Forestview...to listen to an accomplished artist. And he is only 17 years old!
