Flames rushed through the brush and grass in a lowland area just off Cass County 5 two miles east of Hackensack on Sunday mid-afternoon.
Firefighters from the Hackensack Fire Department and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR) responded.
The fire was helped by high temps and a constant wind with frequent gusts that pushed in in several directions.
The fire's northern progress was stopped on the edge of Cass County Highway 5 by firefighters from Hackensack with a wet wall made by spraying down the brush, grass and undergrowth before the fire reached it. Across the road stood at least one residence along with open hay fields and stands of pine.
