The Minnesota State Patrol kept busy throughout much of the state as snow and slush accumulated on the highways Monday and through Tuesday morning. State Troopers responded to a total of approximately 191 crashes. Of those crashes, 44 resulted in injuries and two fatal crashes. The two fatals claimed the lives of five people. Troopers also responded to an additional 224 vehicles that had slid off the highways and required assistance needing many tow trucks. One of the fatals occurred at approximately 3:06 p.m. on I-94, approximately five miles west of Alexandria. The crash involved three vehicles and killed four people. The other fatal occurred at approximately 3:32 p.m. on Highway 28, approximately two miles west of Glenwood. One person was killed when they spun out on the highway and struck a semi.

The State Patrol advises motorists to use caution when traveling and watch for clean up crews.
