Supporters of Rep. Chip Cravaack, R-Minn., have organized an event that will run simultaneously with a Occupy Brainerd event that’s expected to feature criticism of the congressman.
Crow Wing County Republican Chair Doug Kern said in an email that Congressman Chip Cravaack, is the target of a “Thank you for doing your job” event, set for 5-6 p.m. Wednesday at Sixth and Washington Streets in Brainerd. The theme of the event, according to organizer Doug Kern of Brainerd, is “Thank you for doing your job in Washington, D.C.”
The “Thank You Chip” event will be sponsored by Taxpayers MN, Kern said in the news release, later describing the organization as a tongue-in-cheek reference. He said in the news release Taxpayers MN, is made up of working Minnesotans who pay taxes and who would like to see fewer taxes, a group that receives no federal, state or local grant money. Kern described himself in his news release as current Crow Wing County Republican chair and current taxpayer.
Occupy Minnesota had announced plans earlier for an event at 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the same location, near Brainerd City Hall, where Cravaack has an office. The theme of the Occupy Brainerd event, organized by former DFL state Senate candidate Terry Sluss and several organizations, was one that was critical of his family’s purchase of a home in New Hampshire in addition to their home in North Branch.
