Director of Schools Willie Severson and a round of applause surprised District Transportation Coordinator Kala Henkensiefken at Monday night’s Brainerd School Board meeting, honoring her as the recent recipient of Minnesota’s Transportation Administrator of the Year.
“We’re really proud of Kala,” Severson said of Henkensiefken. “She received the prestigious award on Jan. 20 and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of it. It’s a daunting task to oversee a department who transports 5,000 kids covering 720 miles, but she (Henkensiefken) does it and we are very proud of you.”
Henkensiefken, the district transportation coordinator since 1998, was handed her plaque and a small pot of flowers as congratulations. Henkensiefken appeared humbled by the recognition in front of the school board.
“It wasn’t just me who won this, it was our whole district,” said Henkensiefken. “It’s the staff that I work with, who have always helped me to get where I am at. And I just have to thank this district for always supporting me.”

Obviously the parents who have dealt with the transportation coordinator didn't get to vote.

Maybe those who voted should try getting ahold of anyone in transportation!!! They would be getting ahold of Fran. She is the one who should be getting the applause!!!! sounds like she is the one doing ALL the work in there! almost by her self. She gets a big applause from all of us who deal with transportation every day!!! thank you Fran!!!!!!!!!!!!
