NEW ULM, Minn. (AP) — Administrators at a New Ulm elementary school have contacted parents of fifth-grade students after some children played a disturbing recess game they call "rape tag."
A letter from Washington Elementary School Principal Bill Sprung went home to parents this week. Sprung says 15 to 20 students were involved in the game. The Journal (http://bit.ly/AixLhy ) reports the game is similar to freeze tag, but it involves hip thrusts to unfreeze a person after he or she is tagged. Sprung says teachers and recess supervisors were notified about the game and put a stop to it.
About 15 to 20 parents have contacted Sprung after the letter was sent home. He says they're disturbed that they now need to talk about sexually-explicit issues with their children.

Add commentWhat a bunch of old fuddy-duds.
We've been told since the sixties that this is the time when kids should be free to explore their sexual identities. They're just trying to find themselves, for crying out loud.
These kids totally get it.
These kids are creatively exploring the message that culture has been giving them for a generation or more. We have sexualized almost everything......... so why not the game of tag? These are smart kids!!!
Inapp
Oh, I get it.
They didn't hand out condoms before the game started. That's what all the excitement, ahem, is all about.
Bothered...
I am bothered by the idea that 5th graders are even thinking about that. Back in the day, when we were in 5th grade there were still "boy germs" and "girl germs". So where are 5th graders actually SEEING the act to even know how to mimick it? Doesn't anyone shelter their kids from anything anymore?
And isn't anyone bothered by the name, "rape tag"? Rape isn't about sex, it's about power and forcing your will upon someone else. And kids are making light of this and making it a game? What kind of society are we creating when "rape" is a game?
This is scary.
Rape Tag?
At 11 years old I would hope that parents would have had the "talk" with their children!! As for the game, kids do and say inappropriate things because they dont understand or comprehend. So if I were the parent of one of these kids(and yes I am a parent) I would discuss with them that this is inappropriate. Why is or society so sensitive!!! No the game isnt appropriate but come on they are kids correct then and be done with it!!!
