Grant funding available for home repairs

Those in need of a new roof, furnace, windows, insulation or other essential housing repairs living in the city limits of Hackensack or Walker may be eligible for a grant to help defray their costs.

The Cass County Economic Development Corp. reported residents in those two lakes area cities may be eligible for grant funding for repairs through the Small Cities program if they have a low to moderate income.

Grants of up to $20,000 are available for a limited time.

Eligible applicants must own and live in their homes and be low-income households.

Households with less than the following annual income qualify: one person, $32,950; two people, $37,700; three people, $42,400; four people, $47,100; five people, $50,580; six people, $54,650; seven people, $58,400.

The Cass County Economic Development Corp. reported more applications are needed now so work may be done in 2012. So far seven residents in Walker and Hackensack have completed projects or in the process of getting work done with using Small Cities housing grants.

A healthy housing stock will help in recruiting new business to the area, so the Cass County Economic Development Corporation and Bi-Cap have partnered on this project. Those interested, may call Danette at Bi-Cap, (218) 333-9848, for assistance with the application, inspection of the home to determine needs and coordination of bidding and contracting.
