Crow Wing County officials will conduct a voting rights forum from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Central Lakes College student cafeteria in Brainerd.
The panel presentation and discussion will feature individuals from varying backgrounds and perspectives. Organizers said the purpose of the forum is to provide an opportunity for better understanding of the law concerning a person’s right to vote, how that right can be exercised and how the right can be lost and subsequently reinstated.
The sponsors of the forum are the Crow Wing County Attorney and the Crow Wing County Auditor/Treasurer’s offices. Organizers said it’s their hope many of the questions lingering as a result of the 2010 election can be addressed through the forum. There will be a short review of the issues/questions giving rise to the forum.
The Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office will present an overview of current Minnesota election law on voting rights, followed by a series of questions answered by each of the panel members. Written questions from the audience may also be addressed.
