LITTLE FALLS — A 48-year-old Pierz man was sentenced to four years in prison Thursday on two counts of second-degree burglary, Morrison County Attorney Brian Middendorf reported.
James Earl Meyer was sentenced by Judge Conrad Freeberg in Morrison County District Court. Meyer pleaded guilty to the burglaries on Nov. 30.
On Nov. 9, an individual returned to their residence and discovered Meyer leaving a building on his property. Seven days later an off-duty Morrison County deputy sheriff was watching a suspicious vehicle parked near a residence and observed Meyer leaving the residence. Meyer was arrested at the scene.
Meyer has served separate 21 months sentences for Morrison County thefts in 2006 and 2009. Meyer’s criminal history also includes a burglary conviction in 2005 in Isanti County.
“There have been a lot of thefts and burglaries in our county over the last few months,” Middendorf said in a news release. “It is good to see a burglar go from arrest to prison in less than 60 days. Hopefully this swift sentence has a deterrent effect.”
