AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) — A warrant has been issued for an Austin woman who allegedly let her pregnant 13-year-old daughter move in with the 18-year-old father of the baby.
The 31-year-old woman pleaded not guilty in August to misdemeanor charges of knowingly permitting sexual abuse and contributing to the need for child protection. But she failed to show up to a follow-up hearing.
An Austin Daily Herald report (http://bit.ly/sqEaGx ) says a jury trial that was supposed to begin two weeks ago has also been canceled.
Austin police say they received information in July from Mower County Human Services that the daughter was five months pregnant and living with the 18-year-old. Court documents say the mother told social workers she'd keep the girl away from the man, but failed to do so.

promiscuity is hereditary ....
Oh so special
Being a Grandma at age 31 after being a mom at 17 or 18. How sweet is that...(sarcasm alert..)
Hopefully the 18 y/o father
Hopefully the 18 y/o father is working at Costco where he will easily be able to afford his new family, a nice car, the healthcare benefits to take care of the prenatal care/birth, etc.
it says 5 months preggers
no garentees that there'll be a baby yet.
What?
Well, what is it you think she's pregnant with? Kittens.
In most cases the eventual result of a human being 5 months pregnant is a baby.
what???
what if she goes to the P. P. clinic instead?
Kinda late
Kinda late for that isn't it?
Don't the prefer to do D&C abortions before 12 weeks? 5 months is like what....20-24 weeks (counting from first day of LMP)?
Not wishing to get into a debate about whether abortion is right or wrong, but if this girl was intending to abort she probably would have done it before now.
It's more likely she moved in with the baby daddy, planning to live happily ever after.
american citizen
The girl just learned well from her mother- Austin? hmm? maybe a first american citizen of the family?

you are what you are
we don't have to support couples we don't want to. You shut up!
look who showed up in the gutter
to judge the rest of us and what the paper should allow.
their should be more
outrage over this kind of stuff ... regardless of your political leanings, knocking up a 13 year old is a crime ... and really gross
Re: The judgementalism here
This story is news.
This is happening here in Minnesota, our state.
Child rape, sexual abuse, lack of social and family values, government systems that don't work, prejudice, hate - it's all here for everyone to see.
And it's downright ugly.
Can we pretend awhile longer that the problem(s) this story exposes in itself and in the comments here don't exist if we remove it?
Sure.
Does anyone have any real answers to solve these issues?
Does anyone have the fortitude to fight the long fight?
Does anyone care?

No spanking intended
I've observed over the years there are a few commentors on these pages whose opinions are offered with the knowledge of experience and the price of giving a [filtered word] what happens.

And lo, the season of Christmas is upon us!
"We do not know how cold, or perhaps even snowy, it was that December day in Galilee when the young woman we know as Mary was surprised by the angel Gabriel. We do know that Mary would have been in her early teenage years, most likely twelve to fourteen years old. We can tell her age because she was engaged, but not yet married, to a man named Joseph, and yet was physically mature enough to both have and rear God’s Son, something she did for at least a couple of years without much family support. While twelve to fourteen may seem very young to us, it was common in biblical times for women to be married at that age, and much older than fourteen would have been uncharacteristically old for marriage in her culture. We can better understand the great courage and faith Mary had when we realize that she was not a middle-aged and experienced woman of the world, but rather a young woman of faith who accepted the call to be the mother of the Christ."
I pray for the young woman in the story above to find family and community support.
Yes, Denton, many of us care.
