skybridge

Sad that it is going to see even less traffic that the Paul Bunyan trail bridge in west Brainerd. Tell me again how much of my tax money went into these 2 projects. I see my taxes went up another hundred bucks even before 181 gets their hands on me.

KBRD and city growth

To answer your question, Brainerd currently is serviced by a CRJ200 Regional Jet aircraft for airline service.
General aviation only accounts for approximately 60% of all operations at the airport.

No, they will not roll out the jet bridge for your Cessna. General aviation aircraft are serviced by a separate FBO facility on the field.

Much of the money received for these projects comes from a surcharge placed on airline tickets that goes into the AIP fund for airports in the NPIAS system—including the Brainerd Airport.

Brainerd is a small airport; but it is a small city. Surprisingly it still had 16,404 enplaned passengers in 2010, a 6.02% increase from the previous calendar year. This is high performance for the small population of the area.

It comes down to the question, do you want to see your city grow or shrink.

All of this information is easily available free online through the Federal Aviation Administration. I do not work for the airport, I am just a citizen who is informed.

Those totals are obscene. Was there a bidding process? I hope someone local got the project and not an out of state company.

Bridges

Cyclerod, as mnman said, the vast majority of money for these projects comes out the taxes on airline tickets. Kind of ingenious really, charging people who use the facilities to upgrade them. You go right ahead and keep spreading uninformed opinions though, that way we can just shut everything down and nothing will ever be improved...unless you use it of course, then I'm sure you are all for improving those services. Like everything, keep it up, or watch the services go away.

moonhawk - maybe you should drive by the Paul Bunyan Trail bridge periodically and pay attention when you do, I drive by it on average once a week and have seen numerous people using it and yes I assume that if people aren't actually on it, but immediately adjacent to it, they have just used it or are about to use it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the "services" going away as it is? Supposedly the only airline interested in servicing Brainerd will be using planes that can't even use the jetway. By "vast majority of the money" do you mean 10 or 20 percent? No matter how you slice it the airport project is a big steamy pile of waste. P.S. To the other poster----you couldn't take Greyhound out of Brainerd even if you wanted to------they stopped service to Brainerd years ago.

infrastructure for the future

Yeh, let's not plan ahead for any growth.....maybe we could go back to horse & buggy days?
Question - can handicapped people use the present system? going out on the field and walking up steps?

The bridge: the future is good for areas with a trail system. One of my kids just rented a place based on
there being a trail system just out of her door. Healthy people look for trails in areas they want to live.

But nevermind -- we can't have any progress in this area. We need to go back to the 50's.

Actually, Minnesnowda, then

Actually, Minnesnowda, then 1950's had some things going for them. When planners did their thing, there was still an antiquated notion about sidewalks and boulevards prevailing in cities.

The modern thinking is that we all exist in islands of "me-space" with as little interaction with other citizens as possible. When we need to go from place to place, we take that idea with us in the car.

Ever stop to think why conservatives are so afraid of ideas like Global Warming? Why they attack the messenger before the message? It poses a threat to their sense of well-being to consider that they may have to actually participate in civilization for their very survival at some point. For them the world is a hostile place because they expect it, maybe even crave it and work to create that condition.

Scriptures tell us that the meek will inherit the earth. Think on that for a moment.

Service and Funding for KBRD

Brainerd is an EAS Airport, federally determined as a important piece of the national infrastructure, and still federally regulated to maintain air service. This means that federal law must be changed for airlines to leave Brainerd.
The smallest part 121 commuter airline in the Midwest still uses aircraft that can utilize a jet bridge and supporting facilities.

In regards to where the money comes from, It comes in the form of AIP grants-- AIP money comes from ticket surcharges-- Not your taxes.

In FY2010 Brainerd was issued $7,230,326 for Terminal expansion and rehabilitation, and $1,417,146 for the extension of runway 16/34 and supporting taxiways.

This is not the place to complain about your property taxes, the money did not come from there, if you do not fly, you didn't put any money into this project.

Again, all of this information is publicly available to you through the Federal Aviation Administration.

Good evening, Jomammy

Yes, The Bible also mentions hypocrites

and they aint inheriting the earth.

And you would know this how?

People also have the right to not hang out with them

are you saying that civilization is divided up into "people" and "them"?

and will probly survive very well not having them hanging on their backs begging for a free ride.

1) still on the "them" thing, eh?
2) wait a minute...does "their" equate with "them"? who are we really talking about?
3) Are hypocracy and the inability to care for ones self synonyms?
4) figured you wouldn't know about the rapture or the millenium. Or much of any other Christian dogma

You sur paint people with a wide brush there eywolf.

I guess I'll overlook your inability to spell my middle name since you cant spell anything else, either. As to the broad brush thing: "if the shoe fits..."

the word pious comes to mind but only in the pretending sort of way. Someone on here sets themself way too far above the rest of us to be a real believer. It's OK tho, the bigger the brush the more paint you splash on your ownself.
