Veterans Day program scheduled at VFW
A “thank you military program” will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Brainerd VFW in honor of Veterans Day.

The program is open to the public.

As part of the program, a white Christmas frosted tree, will be decorated in patriotic decor. During the tree ceremony, a woman veteran, who served as a Navy lieutenant commander, will be the honoree to light the tree and a gold star mother will light the star. The tree will be dedicated to the fallen heroes and will be on display through the holiday.

The program includes a picture slide show and candle lighting.

Veterans Day program planned at Riverside
Riverside Elementary School will host its annual Veterans Day program at 9 a.m. Friday in the Riverside gym.

Don Bode, a Vietnam veteran, and Don Pfeffer, director of Central Lakes College’s Veterans Resource Center, will present a program entitled “I am the Flag.” The fourth grade choir and guest musicians will be performing.

Brainerd High School jazz ensembles host Bemidji State jazz ensemble Tuesday
The Brainerd High School jazz ensembles will perform a joint concert with the Bemidji State University jazz ensemble at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Tornstrom Auditorium.

The BSU jazz ensemble is under the direction of Del Lyren and is touring with professional trumpeter Kiku Collins. Collins has performed and recorded with such artists as Beyonce and Michael Bolton.

The high school’s Jazz Ensemble I and II, under the direction of Chris Fogderud, will perform and then the college ensemble.

Cost is $4 for students and $6 for adults.
