OUTING — A 51-year-old Sartell man was found deceased near his deer stand Sunday in Beulah Township in the Outing area, said Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch.
The Cass County sheriff’s department received a report of a missing hunter in the Outing area and sheriff deputies, DNR conservation officers and volunteers began a search of the area. At approximately 10 a.m., the man was found near his deer stand. It appeared the victim had fallen from his deer stand, causing an accidental discharge of his firearm resulting in a fatal gunshot wound.
The incident remains under investigation pending autopsy results from the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members.
He was one of at least two Minnesota hunters who died in falls from deer stands during the opening weekend. Authorities now say another man found below his stand died of natural causes, not injuries from a fall as first suspected.
