Jim and Leanne Stuhr listened to election judge Rosemary Segler explain the details of the ballot Tuesday at the Nokay Lake Town Hall during the District 181 referendum.

It’s Election Day for those who live within the Brainerd and Pine River-Backus school districts, as well as Staples city residents.
Voters in the Brainerd School District will cast ballots to decide two operating levy questions. The first question asks voters whether to support renewal of the $199.24 per pupil operating levy, 10-year levy. The second question asks for an additional $200 per pupil, a 5-year levy.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. For more information, visit www.isd181.org and click on the blue starburst about the levy.
Pine River-Backus School District residents will be asked whether to support a building project and a renewal of a $1 per pupil operating levy.
The combined polling site at the Pine River-Backus Elementary School gymnasium will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.
Staples city residents will vote for the mayoral and three city council seats. The polling site at the Staples Community Center will be open from noon to 8 p.m. today.
Check back on www.brainerddispatch.com later tonight (after polls close) for voting results.

Polls

Was very surprised that at 8:30, there was only me and one other person at the polls. And when I left, the counter read 30. 30 people in hour and a half! What is wrong with people?

voting

I still don't understand why they need to have so many voting places open for this. Years ago they used common sense and had the close by townships all vote at the Lincoln School. Those aren't volunteers manning the empty town halls----thats just more of your tax money flying out the window. And while I'm at it - just how much did Dist. 181 spend on all that junk mail they sent out in the last few weeks?
