Police have arrested a 36-year-old Hutchinson man believed to be responsible for the shooting death of a Little Falls man early Monday morning.
The suspect was arrested without incident at his Hutchinson home Monday night by agents of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and officers with the Hutchinson Police Department, Little Falls Police Chief Greg Schirmers said in a news release.
The suspect, whose name wasn’t immediately released Tuesday afternoon, is being held in the Morrison County Jail. Formal criminal charges are expected to be filed Wednesday, the Morrison County Attorney’s office reported.
Schirmers could not be reached for comment Tuesday and further information about the case, including what crime the suspect was being held for and possible motive for the shooting, was not available.
The victim was identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office Tuesday as Dustin Joseph Brown, 30, of Little Falls. Preliminary autopsy results indicated Brown died of multiple gunshot wounds.
At 3:52 a.m. Monday officers with the Little Falls Police Department and deputies with the Morrison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of gunshots at a residence at 600 Lindbergh Dr. N.W.
When officers arrived they found the front entryway to the residence on fire, Schirmers said. The Little Falls Fire Department extinguished the fire, which Schirmers said appeared to be intentionally set by the suspect to destroy the crime scene.
“We believe we have a clear understanding of what happened and are not looking for any additional suspects at this time,” Schirmers said in a news release.
The Little Falls Police Department is investigating the case with the assistance of the BCA, the Morrison County Sheriff's Department and the Central Minnesota Drug Task Force.
