Police are investigating the death of a man who was found with gunshot wounds inside a burning house early Monday in Little Falls.
At 3:52 a.m. Monday officers with the Little Falls Police Department and deputies with the Morrison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of gunshots at a residence on the 600 block of Lindbergh Drive Northwest.
When officers arrived they found the front entryway to the residence on fire, Little Falls Police Chief Greg Schirmers said. The Little Falls Fire Department extinguished the fire, which Schirmers said appeared to be intentionally set.
The victim, whose name wasn’t released Monday morning, was transported to St. Gabriel’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Schirmers said the victim’s name will be released following an autopsy with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office.
The incident has been referred to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for investigation. The BCA directed all questions to the Little Falls Police Department. Schirmers said as of Monday afternoon no arrests had been made.
“We’re following up on leads right now but we don’t have anything concrete yet,” Schirmers said.
The shooting appeared to be an isolated incident, Schirmers said, and investigators didn’t believe there was an ongoing threat to the public.
“From our investigation, where we’re at at this point, it appears it was a targeted crime. It wasn’t random,” Schirmers said. Schirmers declined elaborate because the investigation was ongoing. He said his department had no past contact with the victim.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Little Falls Police Department at (320) 616-5570.
