Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage grant program meeting
The Brainerd Public Library is holding a meeting on the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage grant program for 2011-12 from 4:30-6 p.m. Oct. 7 at the library’s large meeting room.
Regional library director Marian Ridge will give a short presentation on the highlights of the last two years of legacy programs at the library before opening the floor for public comment on local interests for the next biennium. Planning and Zoning Commission to meet Thursday
CROSSLAKE — A special meeting of the Crosslake Planning and Zoning Commission is planned at 8 a.m. next Thursday at city hall.
The purpose of the meeting will be to hear a presentation by the mayor and offer comments regarding the major areas of focus undertaken within the Planning and Zoning Department.
Special Crosslake Council meeting planned Friday
CROSSLAKE — The Crosslake City Council will meet at 2:30 p.m. Friday at city hall to discuss the potential savings by refinancing city bonds with Northland Securities, approve a resolution declaring cost to be assessed, and ordering preparation of proposed assessment and a resolution for hearing on proposed assessment for Sunrise Island Bridge and approve bills for payment.
Singles club plans hayride

Diabetes walk scheduled Saturday at arboretum
The American Diabetes Association will be hosting its signature fundraising event, “Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes” Saturday at the Paul Bunyan Trailhead at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd.
The event, which has a 1-mile walk or 3-mile walk that begins between 8-9 a.m., is filled with activities for the entire family including face painting, the Pine Grove Zoo’s Outreach Program, goodie bags and door prize drawings.

Location for flu shots for veterans will be at north Brainerd clinic
The location for flu shot clinics for veterans, which are scheduled for three dates in October, will be at the Brainerd Community-Based Outpatient Clinic at 722 NW Seventh St. The clinics will be conducted from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday (shots for spouses available 9 to 11 a.m.); 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., Oct. 13: and 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 21.
