GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Some people in northeastern Wisconsin are smelling smoke from a wildfire in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota.
Northwest winds in the wake of a strong cold front have carried the smoke about 300 miles to Wisconsin. Forecasters tell WLUK-TV (http://bit.ly/na97Ln ) the smoke may affect the air quality in northeastern Wisconsin over the next few days. The elderly, children and those with respiratory or cardiac problems are advised to take care.
The U.S. Forest Service says the Pagami Creek forest fire near Ely, Minn., has more than tripled in size since Sunday and has grown to cover more than 16,000 acres.
