Central Lakes College in Brainerd on Aug. 18 hosted about 100 area high school administrators, counselors, and instructors for an in-service focused on providing college-level academics at high schools.
The College in the Schools program enables qualified high school instructors to teach courses in collaboration with CLC faculty such as Bruce Eastman, who met with English instructors to review curricula and policies related to the rigor of college work. Eligible high school students from 26 districts across the region earn college credits upon successful completion of liberal arts and career education courses. The CIS program includes schools as far as Belgrade to the south and Nashwauk to the north.
Participants of partnering institutions came from Brainerd, Aitkin, Crosby-Ironton, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Browerville, Deer River Freshwater Education District, Greenway (Coleraine), Holdingford, Isle, Infinity (online school), Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Little Falls, Nashwauk-Keewatin, Northland-Remer, Onamia, Parkers Prairie, Paynesville, Pequot Lakes, Pierz, Pine River-Backus, Royalton, Sauk Centre, Staples, Swanville and Upsala.
