Body recovered from Lower Whitefish Lake

Posted: August 1, 2011 - 12:05am

The body of a 26-year-old St. Louis Park man was found Sunday morning after he went missing late Saturday afternoon on Lower Whitefish Lake.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office reported that emergency personnel responded at 5:56 p.m. Saturday to a report of an adult male who was missing on Lower Whitefish Lake.

The man was with a group of people who had been out on the Whitefish Chain on a pontoon. The group had stopped the pontoon to go swimming. The group entered the water and it was determined a few minutes later that the man also had entered the water, but did not resurface.

At about 10 a.m. Sunday, the sheriff’s office dive team located the man’s body in 92 feet of water. The body was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office. Foul play is not suspected.

The name of the victim was not released Sunday afternoon because family members had not been notified.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Minnesota DNR conservation officers, the Ideal Fire Department and the Crosslake Police Department.
