Three injured in three-vehicle crash on Highway 371

Three Brainerd area residents were injured after a three-vehicle crash at 9:36 a.m. Sunday along Highway 371 between Nisswa and Pequot Lakes, reported the State Patrol.

Those injured were Sander Erickson, 92, Brainerd, one of the drivers and his passenger Lois Erickson, 82, Brainerd; and Rosellyn Knutson, 92, Baxter. All three victims were taken to Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd.

The other two drivers Justin Malone, 36, Apple Valley, and David Bretz, 57, Nisswa were not injured.

It was reported that the vehicle driven by Sander Erickson was heading north on Highway 371 when he slowed down for the vehicle in front of him making a left turn. Knutson’s vehicle rear-ended Erickson’s vehicle pushing it over the center line where it was hit by a vehicle driven by Malone. Malone’s vehicle slid off the road and into the ditch and struck a tree.

The Nisswa and Pequot Lakes police departments and Crow Wing County Sheriff’s office assisted the State Patrol at the scene. Condition updates on the injured were not available Monday. 

 

Minor injuries reported in crash near Merrifield

MERRIFIELD — A driver and his passenger suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene of a crash at 3:33 p.m. Sunday on County Highway 3 near Merrifield, the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s office reported. 

The crash between two vehicles occurred after the driver of one vehicle pulled into a driveway and then was backing out onto the highway. Joseph Winbauer, Bismarck N.D., 79, and his passenger, Joan Winbauer, were treated at the scene and released. The other driver was Brandyn Pelphrey, 19, Emily. Pelphrey was not reported injured. 

 

Motorcyclist hits deer

Rick Ross, 57, Deerwood, suffered minor injuries when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a deer at 5:47 p.m. Sunday on County Road 10 in Bay Lake Township. Ross was not transported to a hospital.
