Fourth of July events on state highways may go forward even if the state government shuts down July 1.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced this week it was rescinding an earlier decision to cancel all permits. The decision allows communities who have parade routes along state highways to go ahead with their Independence Day traditions.
Other permits in the right-of-way for utilities or, for example, farmers mowing hay, will not be allowed in the event of a shutdown.
