The Lakes Bee planned Friday

The Lakes Bee will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Tornstrom Auditorium at the Washington Educational Services Building in Brainerd.

The regional spelling bee is sponsored by the National Joint Powers Alliance and the Brainerd Dispatch. Students competing in the bee will be from Aitkin, Crow Wing, Cass, Morrison, Todd and Wadena counties. The regional winner will then go on to compete at nationals this June in Washington, D.C.

Students in the Brainerd School District to compete will be eighth-graders Connor Gunsbury, Nick Tietz, Baylee Bessingpas and Jordan Kleist; seventh-graders Scott Woodward; and sixth-graders Emily DeChaine and Adam Kleist.

 

Parent/teacher conferences planned for Little Falls

LITTLE FALLS — The Little Falls High School will have its parent/teacher conferences from 3:45-6:45 p.m. Feb. 28 in the high school commons.

 

AgStar’s Fund for Rural America seeks scholarship applications

High school students are encouraged to apply for $1,000 scholarships through the AgStar Fund for Rural America. 

The fund, a corporate giving program of AgStar Financial Services, is offering $20,000 in scholarships to help students in rural areas continue their education. 

Seniors who plan to continue their education and pursue careers in agricultural fields are encouraged to apply for one of the 15   scholarships available. In addition, the fund is awarding five  scholarships to high school seniors with an agricultural background and plan to continue their education in any field of study. Applications are accepted now through April 1. 

Area Minnesota counties involved include: Aitkin, Cass, Crow Wing, Mille Lacs, Morrison and Todd.
