A 43-year-old driver, who may have blacked out from a diabetic reaction, lost control and crashed his Chevy pick-up Monday morning in wooded area that borders the north edge of the Brainerd Area Civc Center parking lot.
Brainerd Police said the man was picking up his son from hockey practice when he apparently blacked out. The accident took place at about 7:15 a.m.
The driver was responsive to emergency personnel and was taken from the scene by North Ambulance. Brainerd Police and the Brainerd Fire Department responded to the accident.
Emergency personnel used a chainsaw to remove small tree which had prevented them from opening the driver’s side door of the pick-up.
The pick-up went over a snow ridge before it stopped 10 to 20 yards north of the parking lot.
