Eighth annual bachelor/bachelorette auction
The Brainerd Lakes Area Women of Today and Habitat for Humanity eighth annual bachelor/bachelorette auction will be 8 p.m. June 8 at Shep’s on 6th. Bid on a date or a great prize package. Second annual playhouse raffle
The second annual playhouse raffle will be 5-8 p.m. June 10 at the Northland Arboretum.
The playhouses will be raffled off in August with all proceeds benefiting the Brighter Days Foundation. The foundation will be helping four local children who are battling chronic, severe illnesses and their families.
The playhouses will be unveiled at the June 10 event.
Cost for dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children 3 and up.

Brainerd Legion upcoming events
The Brainerd Legion will host vets coffee time at 10 a.m. Monday. The Post executive committee will meet at 7 p.m.
A lasagna dinner by Dave Freiday will be served from 5:30 p.m. until gone Thursday at the Legion. Cost: $8.
Lakes Area Senior Morning Club
The Lakes Area Senior Morning Club meets each Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A speaker program is scheduled each week on various subjects of interest to the community. The club also participates in the “Books in a Bag” program sponsored by the public library. All members of the Senior Center, men and women, are invited to become part of the group. Peer support group offered in Brainerd
A NAMI Connection peer support group for adults recovering from mental illness meets weekly in Brainerd. The free group is sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota. Trained facilitators who are also in recovery lead NAMI Connection groups. Pig roast dinner
The Brainerd VFW Post 1647 in Brainerd is hosting a pig roast dinner in appreciation of area veterans and their families. The dinner will be held Saturday at the Brainerd VFW Post 1647, 309 South 6th Street. Dinner is free to past and present service members (Valid ID cards include service, VA, Disabled Vets, American Legion etc.) and their families. Post opens at noon and dinner begins at 5 p.m.

WHS class of 1962
Washington High School class of 1962 will have a lunch meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Sawmill Inn to continue work on planning for the 50th class reunion. All classmates are encouraged to attend.
Presentation on visits to Afghanistan
Kathy Kelly, co-founder of Voices for Creative Nonviolence, will give a presentation on her visits to Afghanistan in the large conference room of the Brainerd Public Library at 7 p.m. June 13. Her presentation will describe life in Afghanistan, the war’s impact on Afghans, the growing peace movement in Afghanistan, and the Strategic Partnership Agreement President Obama and Afghan President Hamid Karzai recently signed. The Strategic Partnership Agreement allows U.S. troops to remain in Afghanistan until 2024.
Kelly is a well-known peace activist. She traveled extensively in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Syria. She is the recipient of many awards for her work to promote peace and a three-time nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Brainerd Area Coalition for Peace and Little Falls Partners for Peace are sponsoring the presentation. Snacks and beverages are provided. A discussion will be held after the presentation.
Brainerd Service League garage and plant sale
Brainerd Service League will have its annual garage and plant sale June 7-8 in Brainerd. The garage sale will be at 415 Bluff Ave. and the plant sale will be at 621 N. Fourth St.
Items will be coming from more than 20 households.
Members are asked to bring items marked and ready for sale.

Bridge benefit fund raiser
CROSSLAKE — The third annual bridge benefit fund raiser for the Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center will be June 12 at Maucieri’s in Crosslake. Registration will be 11 a.m. with lunch at 11:30 a.m.
Cost is $20, with $6 going to help defray the cost of lunch provided by Maucieri’s. The remainder will go to the Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center, a non-profit organization. Call Barb Bretz at 963-7372 to reserve your spot. Local businesses are donating prizes.
