Nancy Pfeffer

benefit planned

SWANVILLE — A benefit is planned for Nancy Pfeffer from 4-8 p.m. April 14 at the Swanville Lions Park Building. A spaghetti/meatball dinner will be served for a freewill donation. A silent auction will be held from 4-7:45 p.m., along with a raffle drawing to be at 8 p.m. sharp.

Pfeffer was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2010. She has had numerous surgeries and continued chemo/radiation since that time. Presently she is now receiving on-going chemo infusion treatment at Coborn’s Cancer Center in St. Cloud.

Cash donations may be sent to Nancy Pfeffer Benefit, First State Bank of Swanville, 306 DeGraff Ave., Swanville, MN 56382.

Brainerd Legion upcoming events

The MDAA meeting will be 7 p.m. Wednesday.

An apricot glazed pork dinner by Dave Freiday will be served from 5:30 p.m. until gone Thursday at the Legion. Cost: $8.

Pinetree Patchworkers Quilt Club

Pinetree Patchworkers Quilt Club will meet Monday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter at 6:45 p.m. The program will feature demonstrations from both Country Fabrics and Colorz for Quilts of Brainerd.

Brainerd Lakes Area Audubon Society

The Brainerd Lakes Area Audubon Society will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Central Lakes College, Room E354. Speakers will be Janine Kohn, National Coordinator of the Leopold Education Project (LEP) for Pheasants Forever/Quail Forever, and William E. Faber, Natural Resources Instructor at CLC and MN State LEP Coordinator.

See the first full-length, high-definition documentary film, “Green Fire,” ever made about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold and his environmental legacy. It shares highlights from his career, explaining how he shaped conservation and the modern environmental movement. The showing will be preceded by short presentations about Leopold and “A Sand County Almanac” by Kohn, and Faber.

Baxter Lions to meet

The Baxter Lions will meet on Monday at Camp Vanasek. The board meeting will be at 6 p.m. with dinner following at 6:30 p.m. with 5M9 Governor Bruce Beck and the regular meeting at 7 p.m.

Move Over Meat cooking class

Move over meat vegetarian cooking class will be 4-5:30 p.m. April 15 at the Oak Street Christian School, 2910 Oak St., Brainerd.

The class will be the blessings of fresh fruit.

Welcome back snowbirds, customer appreciation party planned

BACKUS — With the return of its fine feathered friends from the south underway, the Backus American Legion will hold its annual welcome back snowbirds and customer appreciation party April 21. The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. and includes musical comedy by the post’s Usual Suspects Theater Co. at 5:30 p.m., a back to the 50s themed costume contest at 6 p.m., and a 10-round meat raffle with 50 packages beginning at 5 p.m. Following the event, at 9 p.m., there will be complimentary cash and customer drawings at 9 p.m.

The Legion is located at the intersection of Highways 371 and 87 W.

Dance and 4-H benefit dinner planned

BACKUS — The Backus American Legion will sponsor a dance and 4-H benefit dinner will be April 15.

Frankie Lamb’s Frankly Country Band appears from 2-6 p.m. playing classic country, pop, old time and swing. A pork loin dinner served by the Cass County Agriculture Association will be $8 and served from 6 p.m. until gone with proceeds going toward prize premiums for 4-H participants at the Cass County Fair.

St. Jude’s Walk-A-Thon planned

St. Jude’s Walk-A-Thon will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28 at Kiwanis Park, 1101 East River Rd., Brainerd. Get your friends and families together to help support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fight pediatric cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

There will be a silent auction with a variety of items held at the park. Bottled water, McDonalds and Arby’s meal coupons have been donated for participants.

Annual CWC Historical Society meeting, dinner and silent auction planned

The Crow Wing County Historical Society’s annual meeting, dinner and silent auction will be 5:30 p.m. April 24 at the Brainerd American Legion. The meeting is open to the public. A Rosemaling workshop with Egil Dahle from Bo Telemark, Norway, will be held April 16-21 at the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Egil is an internationally acclaimed rosemaler China painter and has taught classes world-wide. Ruby’s Pantry

Ruby’s Pantry is a mission outreach where participants give a cash donation of $15 to cover expenses of the program and in return receive corporate surplus food. The variety and amount varies each month; however, the value of what is received generally averages $50-$100. Participants need to bring containers to carry their food home. No income guidelines. Ruby’s Pantry will be at Brainerd Armory on Wright Street the second Tuesday of each month. The next distribution from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday with doors opening at 9 a.m.
