Benefit dinner and silent auction for Shari Witt-Grave

PINE RIVER — There will be a benefit dinner and silent auction for Shari Witt-Grave, East Gull Lake, beginning with a meal at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Legion Club in Pine River. Freewill offering is appreciated. There will be a silent auction, door prizes and drawings throughout the evening. Donations of auction items would be appreciated. Witt-Grave was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia in March. She is unable to return to her job that she loves, assisting the elderly and disabled.

A fund has been established with US Bank and donations can be made from any branch.

 

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation garage sale benefit planned

BAXTER — The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will have a garage sale benefit from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 27 at 12996 Berrywood Drive, Baxter, east of Walmart off College Road. All money will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

 

WHS class of 1957

The Washington High School class of 1957 will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Northwind Grille in Brainerd.

 

Firearms Safety classes planned

VFW Post No. 1647 will sponsor Firearms Safety Classes on the following dates: Sept. 8, 13, 15, 20, 22 and 27. Field day will be Sept. 24. Classes run from 6-8:30 p.m. those evenings. Call the VFW Post at 829-6393 after 3 p.m. in the afternoons. Cost is $5 the first night and $7.50 when the students pass their class. Students must be 11 years old by Sept. 8. Class limited to 20 students.

 

Nisswa Garden Club meeting

NISSWA — The Nisswa Garden Club will meet Thursday at the Lutheran Church of the Cross.  Check-in and social time will begin at noon. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. followed by a business meeting and program. From Garden to Table herbs display will be presented by speakers Dorothy Johnson and Janice Bradshaw. Statistics from the 2011 Garden Show include the following: Total number of exhibits in show, 552; total ribbons awarded, 507; exhibitors who won the most ribbons, Jill Macnamara, 63, Geri Seaberg, 28, Jean Segerstrom, 28, Dorothy Johnson, 26, Nancy Mcnamara, 20, Janice Bradshaw, 20; Viewers choice awards, Jennifer Quam, artistic Purple Rain, Ann Bertrand, horticulture, mixed, flowering potted plant; and Court of honor, there were 12 exhibitors who won different placement awards which included two youth and one first time adult entry.

 

Brainerd Legion upcoming events

Approximately 200 motorcyclists on The American Legion Legacy Run will arrive at the Brainerd Legion at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. These riders are traveling a route from Indianapolis to the National American Legion Convention which will be held this year in Minneapolis from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. A spaghetti dinner will be available to the riders and the public is invited to attend. Cost is $5.

Teddy Anderson will serve a prime rib dinner from 5:30 p.m. until gone Thursday. Cost: $13 ($12 with a presale ticket purchased by Wednesday).

Introduction to square dancing

An introduction to square dancing will be 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Franklin Art Center cafeteria. No previous experience necessary. Come and see what square dancing is all about.

 

Crow Wing Genealogical Society meeting

Crow Wing Genealogical Society will have a discussion and research meeting from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Family History Center, 101 Buffalo Hills Lane W., Brainerd. VFW Friday dinner planned

The VFW Friday evening dinner will be pork chops from 5:30 p.m. until gone. Cost: $8.
