Disabled American Veterans and Auxiliary picnic planned
The monthly meeting and yearly picnic for DAV/DAVA Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22 members and spouses will be held at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground at Gull Lake at 5 p.m. Thursday.
The picnic will be held at the pavilion next to the office at the Gull Lake Dam. Hamburgers, brats, buns, condiments and non-alcohol beverages will be provided by the chapter, the rest will be potluck. Park up behind the corps offices above the Gull Lake Dam.
Brainerd Legion upcoming events
The Brainerd American Legion will have a Post membership meeting at 7 p.m. Monday.
A jumbo shrimp dinner by Terry Metzger and sons will be served from 5:30 p.m. until gone Thursday at the Legion. Cost: $13 ($12 with a presale ticket purchased by Wednesday).
Lakes Area Caged Bird Club
The Lakes Area Caged Bird Club meeting will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Oak Lawn Town Hall located on Highway 18, one mile east of the intersection of Highways 18 and 25. We will be discussing our pet birds. For more information, call Char at (218) 764-2625.
Lakes Area Singles Mille Lacs boat launch
GARRISON — The Lakes Area Singles will sponsor a boat launch on Mille Lacs Aug. 27, departing at 6:30 p.m. from the Blue Goose in Garrison.
The boat will return at 10:30 p.m. Cost is $32 or less depending on the number of people. Dancing at the Blue Goose afterwards. Potluck, barbecue, music, on the boat. Fishing optional but bait, equipment, etc. is all included.

Encore Arts Association
Encore Arts Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Brainerd Lakes Area Senior Activity Center, 803 Kingwood, Brainerd. The scheduled activity is creation of Artist’s Trading Cards. Pre-cut cards and colored pencils will be available. Sandy Walker is hostess.
Frankie Lamb Band to perform
BACKUS — The Frankie Lamb Band returns to the Backus American Legion Aug. 21 from 2-6 p.m. for the monthly senior dance, playing classic country and pop tunes, old time and swing.
The dance will be followed by a lasagna dinner with salad and dessert from 6 p.m. until gone with proceeds going toward prize premiums for 4-H contestants at the Cass County Fair.
Brainerd History Group to meet
The Brainerd History Group will be touring the Brainerd Water Plant on the south end of Boom Lake at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Park out front on the top of the hill on Jenny/Emma St. Anyone interested in Brainerd history is welcome. Call 820-2424 for more information.

BNSF Jack’s and Jill’s summer picnic and membership drive will be Aug. 24 at St. Mathias Park. Social hour will be 5 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m.
