Q: What is the difference between 3G and 4G?

A: The “G” stands for “generation” which is to say how recent that version of the technology is. For example, 2G means it is the second iteration of that service, similar to how Apple has released it’s iPods or iPhones — each number indicates that subsequent version. As far as what that means for the end user (us) really it comes down to speed. 4G, being the latest version, is touted to be the fastest network yet, allowing up to ten times the speed as a 3G network and allowing more users to be on the network at a time. Think fewer dropped calls and faster data access. However, it should be noted that 4G is not available in all areas yet, so it would be in your best interests to make sure you know what network is available to you in your area of primary use.
