Last year, Sally’s mother told her about The Center’s Quilt Bingo. She had been hesitant but decided to go at the last minute. She was amazed that the room was almost full when they arrived! Everyone had paid for their bingo cards, purchased snacks and was in their seats ready to begin! Sally and her mother began watching each other’s cards just to see who had the most numbers called.
Unfortunately, neither of them had a bingo before intermission. During intermission, they noticed there was a gently used shoe and purse sale going on. Sally found a beautiful used purse that was a good color for summer and the price made it a great find! They went down a hallway to the Gift Shop and entered a wonderful room filled with members of The Center hand-crafted items that were for sale. Sally’s mother found a baby outfit for her new grandchild. Then it was time to get back in their seats for bingo games nine through sixteen.
Disappointment was beginning to set in as neither one had won a game but people all around them had. Sally switched out one of her bingo cards after game 12 to see if that made a difference. As they were playing the 14th game, Sally had three corners that had been called; she was so excited. When the fourth corner’s number was called, she jumped out of her seat! One of the volunteers read the numbers from her card back to the bingo caller for verification; his words were “Four corners ... and you’re the winner!”
Sally picked out quilt number 33; it had the colors of her family room in it. She felt that it would be a great quilt to wrap up in while she watched television. When Bingo was over, a free lunch of a sandwich, pickle, lemonade, coffee or water and homemade bars were given out to everyone. Sally thanked her mother for inviting her, it was a wonderful afternoon.
This year she has the date saved, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. April 14, to play. It is $7 per card for 16 games. Sally is coming not only with her mother, but her sister and daughter also will be with. The shoe and purse sale begins at 11 a.m., so they will arrive in time to shop! Once bingo begins, they will all be waiting to hear “You’re the winner!”
