■ Ida Fuller
Age: 72.
Live: “I’ve lived in Brainerd for about 50 years.”
What are you doing at The Center today (Feb. 11): “I volunteer with Lutheran Social Services in the cafeteria for five hours a day washing dishes, setting the table, taking out garbage and harassing the customers.
“I started volunteering to do this when the senior center was located downtown, so about 30 years. I enjoy it and I like the people. It gives me something to do to get me out of the house.”
Funny story: “There is one man who always asks me to come by his table to entertain them. He does that because I was teasing him about dancing on the tables.”
Family: Late husband Richard, five children, “close to 20” grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pets: “I have a cat. Her name is Mama and she is about 11-12 years old. She was in this house when my husband and I moved in. She just moved in with us.”
Do you shovel your own snow: “Yes and this morning (Feb. 11 after the Brainerd area received 6.5 inches of snow) the snow plow came by three times after I had finished. I’ve shoveled snow forever. I get it done usually once 2 inches falls but this time I waited and I did a little last night and then finished it this morning. And when I get home tonight I’ll have to do it again. Shoveling snow gives me something to do.”
Biggest puzzle you’ve done: “I do a lot of 1,000 piece puzzles. I just finished one and now I’m doing an angel puzzle with 1,000 pieces. I’m hoping to finish it up by the end of the week. I did three puzzles last week but they were small.”
Favorite card game: “Spider Solitaire. I play it on the computer. Nine out of 10 times you don’t win. Those are my odds.
Greatest achievement in life: “I worked for the Brainerd Salvation Army for 20 years. I retired about 11 years ago. Now I just volunteer on Fridays with the food shelf.”
If you could be a flower, which one would you be and why: “A rose, because they smell pretty and it has thorns, to represent my feistiness.”
