The Staples Public Library is offering the following programs: Artist Marie Olofsdotter will present a program of Poetry and Collage at the Staples Public Library from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 3. All ages from adult to age 6 are welcome to register for this event, but children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult to assist them. Olofsdotter will show how to use poetry and collage to create a unique autobiographical piece. The group will work with words and images, handmade papers from India, and other fun materials. The final collage will be a fun and unusual portrait inspired by a name poem. Olofsdotter is the author and illustrator of several picture books, a past winner of the Minnesota Book
Award, and has worked as a freelance maskmaker and performer in Stockholm, Paris, Berlin and Minnesota. The attendance limit to her program is 30 and preregistration is required. This program is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
Author/illustrator Nancy Leasman will present a program about Wine and Vinegar Making for teens and adults at the Staples Public Library from 6:30-7:30 p.m. March 8. Leasman has more than 30 years of experience in growing and using herbs. She is the herbalist for Leatherwood Vinegary which makes and sells artisan fruit wine and herbally infused vinegars. She has written extensively about gardening and herbs and is the author of “Leatherwood Vinegary: A winery gone sour.” Her program will include a discussion of wine and vinegar making, with additional information on growing herbs and question time. This program is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
