Thanks to the Marines
Ooh rah and thank you from the Marines of Heartland Detachment to the Brainerd lakes community for the great support of the recent Toys For Kids program. Again this year, your generosity provided Christmas gifts for nearly 900 children. More than 400 family bags were distributed on Dec. 15.
This was the 30th consecutive year this locally supported program has served families in need. In addition to the work by Heartland Detachment and Auxiliary members, more than 350 volunteer hours were contributed by the local community and businesses. And nearly 100 businesses and organizations supported the collection of toys and donations.
A special thanks is due to 3WI radio for their loyal dedication in promoting the program, to the Green Lantern for their annual event and to the Salvation Army for their assistance and cooperation for many years. Thanks also to Kohl’s employees for their 76 hours of volunteer service.
Since this is entirely a local program, the local economy benefited from an estimated $45,000 through the purchase and donation of toys and gifts.
Thanks to all of our supporters from the families and children we serve.

Brainerd American Legion and the Santa Sock
The Brainerd American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 255 wishes to thank all of the individuals in our community who helped us make Christmas a little bit more special for the veterans who reside in the nursing homes in and around the area. The socks that were donated to fill the “Santa Sock” at the Legion Club were given to veterans here in Brainerd, and the rest will go to the St. Cloud VA, which has a special department to help the homeless. The veterans in Brainerd, who received their gifts on Dec. 22, felt truly blessed to be remembered at Christmas.
Our sincere thanks to all who donated to this project!
