
Central Lakes College baseball coach Pat Held and his wife, Carolyn, leaned on the dugout railing at Hammond Stadium at Fort Meyers, Fla., during the pro-am game that was part of the Twins Fantasy Baseball Camp Jan. 8-16. More than 100 campers along with ex-Twins players and current Twins coaches participated. The Helds each got hits off Juan Berenguer in the pro-am game and had an opportunity to golf with Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. Carolyn received the Kirby Puckett Award for her enthusiasm and love of the game.

The Brainerd eighth-grade girls basketball team won the Alexandria tournament Jan. 3 and finished second at the Coon Rapids A tournament Jan. 29-30. Brainerd’s record is 17-3. The Brainerd Bantam C Essentia team won the Super Rink Spectacular Winter Thaw tournament in Blaine in January. Justen Brown of the Bremer Bank team in the Brainerd Twi-Lite Classic League at Jack’s House in Brainerd bowled 11 strikes in a row for a 299 game Jan. 18.

Mike McFarland of Babe’s Lounge team in the Try Star League at Paul Bunyan Bowl in Baxter rolled a 300 game Jan. 26. It was his third sanctioned 300 game.
