White Fish Lake "Ga-atk- kumegokag, the place of white fish," an aboriginal name.
Rush Lake: was called "Shing-wakosagibid sagailgun, the lake of the pine sticking up out of the water" by the Ojibways.
Round Lake is translated from "Gawawiiegumag"
Lake Hubert is translated from Ojibway as "Ga-manomin-iganjikag sagaiigun, Wild Rice Lake"
Lake Hubert and the adjoining village may well have been so designated in honor of St. Hubert, the patron saint of huntsmen.
Personal names applies to many lakes in this area are nearly all commemorative of early settlers.
