1st Council Passed Law On Liquor
♦  Records show Brainerd's first City Council meeting on January 11, 1873, with Eber H. Bly as Mayor.

L. P. White Culled Father of Brainerd
♦  Lyman P White often is called the father of Brainerd. He arrived here by stage from Sauk Rapids and Crow Wing in 1870.

Courthouse Authorized In 1872
♦  A courthouse was authorized for the City of Brainerd by the Legislature in 1872, and 25-year, seven per cent bonds in the amount of $30,000 were issued for construction

Crow Wing County Notables of 1890's
♦  S. F. Alderman, who was admitted to the bar in 1893, was elected Crow Wing county attorney in 1898. He served as municipal judge for four years and was clerk of District Court for 10 years. Alderman came to Brainerd from Connecticut.

Pavement Came in 2nd Half of City's History
♦  Modern Brainerd residents take cement sidewalks and paved streets for granted. Actually, however at least half the city's history passed before the city became well-paved.

Trouble Plagued Water and Light
♦  Trouble and struggle seem to have been the history of Brainerd's water and light systems up to 1908, when the City Council, under the newly-established Home Rule charter, took matters into its own hands.
