Brainerd Daily Disgrace

It's a sad day when one has to read a newspaper from a city 3-4 hours driving time away just to get local information. The Brainerd paper is so caught up in "neighbor" crap that they fail to report on actual news. I am glad to see Jodie Tweed gone, as she was by far the worst at this. Hopefully, the "paper" can get rid of Renee Richardson and Matt Erickson and learn what "news" actually is. Everyone is so caught up on what someone else is doing that they fail to see the big picture, or even the small picture. I don't care what Joe Dirt on 4th Ave did to his garden. And now, they change their front-page pictures to cut off half the picture. You know, if I wanted to see a picture cut-off and zoomed-in that far, I'll just photoshop it myself. I'd rather see the whole picture AND the headlines (however news-less they may be) rather than some 2-year-old's head taking up 90% of the front page. Writing about a walk for MS or our troops coming home is one thing, but making that article fully about someone nobody even knows (and who claims to be from the area) is completely different. No one cares outside the 5 people in that family. Don't waste a full front page on that, it's not "news." Seriously, I feel the intelligence being sapped from my brain every time I pick up your "newspaper." Either learn what a real newspaper is or just quit entirely. The world would be a better place, or at least the Brainerd area would be.

Another Perspective

I would like to give a different view of the BDD...

I am new to the area, having relocated from the Eastern US. I grew up and have always lived a rural area much like Brainerd. Unfortunately, the "hometown" newspapers where I'm from are full of stories about increasing crime, drug use, political corruption, and other things that make me glad I'm not living there anymore.

Even my little hometown of 500 residents has nothing to report except about how some group is protesting natural gas 'fracking' or someone else is opposing the new cell phone tower plans. Every week, it's the same. I can't recall the last time that I read anything in those papers that made me feel good.

I have found the BDD to be a refreshing and positive source of information. They mix news with human interest stories that show that there is still some good in the world. It doesn't have to be all negativity and drama. I love the effort and variety that they put into their paper. Keep up the good work BDD!

RE: Another Perspective

Thank you, Rockfish. I'm going to share your kind comments with the news staff. They work hard to find news - hard news and soft news because they know not everyone shares King Bob's cynical, selfish, shallow viewpoints about their community. We aren't perfect. We miss stories. We make mistakes in spelling and grammar (and gender references). But these people I work with care about their work and their communities.

eyolf, we stretch our staff to cover everything we do now including proof reading and editing. As you probably saw, KSTP TV decided they couldn't afford to keep a local news staff in Alexandria anymore, 17 jobs - gone. It's an expensive business and all media have been fighting declining advertising revenues. You hear about newspapers because we report about it. As you can see, TV and radio have been hit hard also, maybe even harder. They just don't talk about it.

King Bob, well, you need to find a hobby or a friend (if that's possible with your current attitude). Hopefully they'll have more than 5 family members and don't garden.

My "2 cents" to this BDD nonsense......

I do not always find stories in the Dispatch interesting, however, the stories are about issues & events of our "Local Community" published in our "Local Community Newspaper".
I am one, whom wants to know what's happening in our community, be it of my interest or not. The BDD does provide "links" to State, National, and World news stories.
Personally, I am tired of hearing about the decline of our Nation. As for the "Big Picture", it's all about "Power, Greed, & Destruction ". It seems that a majority of the people in the world, only live life through the mind and not through the heart. That's really sad to see and plays a big part in the demise of "Humanity"......
