Tea Party Congressman Chip Cravaak of Minnesota Collects Disability From His Union Job

Representative Chip Cravaak of Minnesota was swept into office during the 2010 midterm election on the Tea Party platform. He has since voted for the Paul Ryan plan to kill Medicare, which would force seniors to rely on a voucher system which wouldn’t be likely to cover their vast health needs and costs. But did you know that he’s a raging hypocrite?

Even as he bashed unions during his election campaign, Cravaak enjoyed the benefits of being a member of one. He worked as a pilot for Northwest Air, now Delta, as recently as 2007 and being a pilot means that you are automatically a union member, thus receiving the benefits of union negotiated salaries, vacations and ultimately, disability payments. According to financial records released by Cravaak himself, the Tea Party Representative received $92,273 from disability payments in 2010 alone. So while Cravaak was busy bashing “big government” and unions, he was cashing disability checks.

But this isn’t the only example of his hypocrisy. In addition to receiving Congressional health care, which is paid for by the government, Cravaak also receives government run health care as a military veteran, meaning he can walk into any government owned medical facility to receive medical care and the taxpayer picks up the tab. He enjoys what he and the Tea Party call “socialized medicine” even as he votes to strip senior citizens of their own government health care.

This kind of hypocrisy is outrageous. This guy got elected after campaigning against unions and government run health care and yet it’s perfectly fine that he gets to enjoy the benefits of both. Just another example of ‘do what I say, not as I do’ politics in America.

The best the Republicans have to offer.

He sounds like a double dipper.

Full pay plus full disability.

I wonder how long it will be until the drug makers get him appointed to a drug committee in congress so that he can start working directly for them. With his wife 'working' for the drug makers it will be easy access to him.

Airlines and Railroads

Airlines and Railroads operate under "closed shop" rules. This means that certain job crafts are unionized and if you are working in any of those jobs you are required to belong to the union as a condition of employment. Mr. Cravaak was faced with the choice of joining the union or abandoning his career.
Not surprisingly he wanted to fly so he joined. He may have been displeased with his options but that's what they were.

As a dues paying member of the union his dues entitled him to certain benefits. Disability benefits were one of the things his union provides. He availed himself of this benefit, nothing improper or hypocritical here. I might add that his disability payments are funded through union dues and are not paid from public money.

I am also a military veteran and it is not true that Mr. Cravaak or myself can "walk into any government owned medical facility to receive medical care and the taxpayer picks up the tab."
I challenge that assertion as being false on its face.
Any VA medical benefits that he or I might actually qualify for have been earned.

Cravaack Does Not Bother To Even Show Up For Jobs Bill

The time has come to replace Chip sooner than later. Mr Cravaack showed his "dissent " Thursday night by not even showing up for the Presidents address to the Joint Session of Congress. Time to cut Chip loose so he can collect his 2 current disability pensions , and get started on his 3rd pension for " serving" in Congress one 2 year term . Seems Chip is certain that Jobs are NOT an issue in his district ?

Paul Ryan & Chip Cravaack = 2 peas in a pod

Now that Mitt Romney has appointed Paul Ryan to be his brain . I certainly hope all you potential voters out there get out and vote..
Dont be fooled by the party of NO , and do as I say , certainly NOT AS I DO slogans !!!! .
If the Chipster is collecting a disability payment from the Navy , for sleep apena , it would NOT even appear on his tax returns.

Another note to Chip Cravaack

We all know your still on your 5 week vacation ,however about 98% of us are starting to get a little concerned about this expiration of the BUSH Tax Cuts on New Years Eve.
Why cant you agree that 1 0r 2% of the entire population should pay a couple bucks more on any dollar they make over $ 250,000 year ? Dont you think 98% of us are worth saving ? If you dont react pretty soon ,you will be branded forever a right wing ideologue seeking to put the economy back into a death spiral . That may look bad on your resume , since its likely you will be looking for a new job pretty soon.
