Adviser nomination: “Parker is becoming a potter due to his tenacity and strong work ethic. He has fought to conquer frustration, to strive for creative solutions and to produce quality pottery with a style of his own. Parker is very teachable, soaking up knowledge of all aspects of pottery. He is always willing to share that knowledge and assist his peers, as well as assisting the BHS (Brainerd High School) art staff as a superb pottery aide.”
Artist most admired: Cyrus Swann, a potter from Pine River.
What do you like about pottery: “This is the fourth pottery class I have taken. I like making my own stuff and using my styles. My cousins and brother were all in pottery and I wanted to be too. I was awful my first year as a sophomore, but I got better.”
Your most challenging piece: “Trying to get a good plate that didn’t crack or sag down. I accomplished it just a week ago and it was after like 10 tries.”
Your role as the pottery aide: “I mix up a lot of clay and get all the supplies ready for the students. I also help other students by walking around as they are doing their work and I give them tips.”
Dream job: “Professional fisherman at Bassmasters.”
Favorite subjects: Science and pottery.
Favorite movie: “The Goon.”
Favorite TV show: “Duck Dynasty.”
Favorite restaurant: The barn.
Favorite band: Midwest Selects.
Favorite Christmas treat: Peanut Butter Blossoms.
Top of your Christmas list: “Hunting knives and an ice auger.”
Other activities/clubs: “Super fanning the Warrior athletics, where I and six students help lead the cheers at sporting events and the Northwood Fishing League, a summer fishing competition.”
Biggest fish: “I was in first grade and on Red Lake and I was dangling a lure off the boat and caught a 36-inch Northern.”
