Legacy Chorale prepares for 11th season fall concert series

DEERWOOD — After kicking off their 11th Season with their annual fall fundraiser in September, The Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota is now preparing for their fall concert series, entitled Choral Classics. The opening performance is 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood. Two more concerts are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at St. Joseph’s Parish in Pierz and 3:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd.

Admission for the concerts is $10 for adults and seniors and students 18 years and younger are free. Tickets can be purchased at the door at each concert; at the Brainerd Dispatch, Bethany Bookstore in Baxter, St. Joseph’s Parish in Pierz, Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood or by contacting Bill Satre, Legacy

Chorale Manager at 820-4558 or legacychorale@charter.net.

Repertoire for the Choral Classics concert series consists of choral masterpieces from the past six centuries, from Baroque and Renaissance classics such as Peter Philips’ “Ascendit Deus” and J.S. Bach’s “Honor and Glory” to 20th Century gems like Eric Whitacre’s “The Seal Lullaby” and “Psalm 50” by F. Melius Christiansen. Other works on the program are Giuseppe Verdi’s classic opera chorus, “Va Pensiero,” the famous “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place” from Johannes Brahms’ Requiem, and Edvard Grieg’s jewel, “Ave Maris Stella.” In keeping with tradition, the concert will also include folk tunes and spiritual arrangements, including “Little David Play On Your Harp,” “Old Dan Tucker,” “Ezekiel Saw De Wheel” and the Shaker song, “Ye Followers of

the Lamb.”
