Music! Music! Music!

Posted: January 11, 2012 - 5:19pm

The Lakes Area Senior Activity Center enjoys sponsoring the concerts in the park every Thursday throughout the summer and fall. Individuals from the community who attended the concerts stated that they appreciated the entertainment and hoped that they will continue next year; and they will. But, we thought it would be fun to try one in the winter; not located in the park, of course! We are sponsoring a concert on Feb. 12, with two local music groups that are well known in our area.

Jack Franzen & Boys will hit the stage first. Jack plays in Muddy Waters, and his sons, Chris, John and Jason, play in various bands in the lakes area. Their combined styles of music will range from classic country to rock. Jack is a born and raised Brainerd boy and enjoys performing for his hometown.

Diane Saumer & Friends will take over the stage for the second portion of the concert. Their style of jazz, swing and everything will keep your toe taping and a smile on your face as you just sit back and enjoy. Playing keyboard will be Dawn Hill who played with her dad, Howie Hill.

Both of these groups are native to Brainerd and we appreciate their support for the senior center. Like the bandstand concerts, this one is open to the public and will be held at the Franklin Arts Center’s beautiful stage. Some of the performers have been on it before, when it was Franklin Junior High! They have grown up and so has their gift of performing music.

Because there are costs to arranging this concert, we are asking $8 per person and $5 for children 12 and under. Any proceeds that are made will go to the senior Center.

If you appreciate music, you’ll want to attend the concert that is scheduled for at 3 p.m. Feb. 12 at Franklin Auditorium in Brainerd. Tickets are available at the Senior Center. No matter what your age, you are welcome to come, purchase a ticket and enjoy the show. If not sold out, tickets at the door will be $10 each. The Senior Center is located at the corners of Eighth and Kingwood Streets on the north side of Brainerd.

DEANN BARRY is the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center director
