Artist Jan Lendobeja of Clara City will have her work featured from Aug. 1 through Sept. 30 at Evelyn Matthies’ Porthole Gallery in Brainerd. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. A reception, free and open to the public, is planned from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 7.
Lendobeja graduated from the College of St. Benedict and she taught school in Slayton. In 1978 she and her husband, Paul, moved to Brainerd area.
In Lendobeja’s painting statement: “ I have painted informally on and off over the years. Much of my time has been dedicated to some very special non-profit organizations, to raising our children and to supporting my husband is his Haiti Missions and prison ministry. The whole time while our kids were growing up, I had a little box of watercolor paints in the back of my closet. Over the years I have enjoyed viewing the work of area artists and in 1990 I attended a painting workshop with Evelyn Matthies.
“The framed paintings are largely the products of the last couple years. Each painting is special because it bears a little symbol of Christ, as he is present in every ‘scene’ in life. I have entitled this exhibit, ‘Opening My Paint Box.’”
