Central Lakes College will be the site of one of two state-wide, televised debates among gubernatorial candidates this fall. Scheduled to be hosted by public TV, the event is sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Blandin Foundation.

Parties accused of conspiracy by attorney Jack Graham say they are pleased to have been cleared after an investigation by the state lawyers board of responsibility. They include the county attorney and attorney representing him, a district judge and a federal magistrate.

The team of New York Islander goalie Glenn (Chico) Resch won the 5th Annual Camp Confidence Celebrity Golf Tournament at Brainerd Country Club. Team members were Harley Tanner, John Tanner, Rick Johnson and Vic Sofie. Total team net score was 313.

There are already three bands entered in the Crow Wing County Centennial parade, according to the chairman. First is the 28-member Brainerd Ladies Drum and Bugle Corps, second is the C-I High School Band, and third is the 34th Infantry Division Band from Iowa.

With the present contract between the city and Minn. Power & Light for electricity set to expire in October, 1939, the city plans to build a municipal power plant. After plans and specs are ready, the city will apply for a federal public works grant to pay 45 percent of the cost.

George LaBar, county fuel administrator, returned from Minneapolis with word that nearly our total supply of hard coal and most of our soft coal will be diverted to more pressing war purposes. The county will have to rely almost entirely on wood for heating this winter.
